Gentle Ayurvedic Chicken Recipe for Kids

This easy and healthy chicken recipe is perfect for children — mild, nourishing, and full of comforting flavours. It’s designed to be gentle on digestion, making it suitable for growing bodies, while still being delicious enough for the whole family to enjoy.

As with all Ayurvedic cooking for children, please seek guidance from a qualified Ayurveda practitioner if your child has a specific medical condition or dietary requirement.

Ingredients (Serves 1–2)

  • 1 chicken breast (approx. 1 per person)

  • 1–2 garlic cloves, chopped or crushed

  • 1 onion, sliced

  • 1 cm fresh ginger, grated or thinly sliced

  • ½ tsp paprika

For children:

For adults (optional):

  • ½ tsp jaggery or brown sugar

Optional spices (very mild):

  • ¼ tsp cumin

  • ¼ tsp cinnamon

  • Salt, to taste

  • Olive oil or ghee

Method

  1. Clean the chicken breast and slice it horizontally. Place on a plate and lightly sprinkle with salt. Leave to rest for 2–3 minutes.

  2. Heat a small amount of olive oil or ghee in a non-stick pan or deep pot.

  3. Gently stir-fry the chicken until it turns white on the outside and inside. Remove from the pan and set aside.

  4. Slice the onion into rings and sprinkle with a little salt to help release excess moisture.

  5. In the same pan, sauté the garlic, ginger, and cinnamon until fragrant, taking care not to burn them.

  6. Add the onion and cook until soft and lightly golden.

  7. Stir in the paprika and either tomato ketchup (for children) or jaggery (for adults). Cook for 1 minute.

  8. Return the chicken to the pan, add a pinch of black pepper if desired, and stir for 1–2 minutes until well combined and warmed through.

  9. Serve warm with rice or mashed potatoes.

Why This Recipe Works in Ayurveda
