Liquorice is a native of the Mediterranean and the near East and now can be found throughout the subtropical and temperate regions of the world. It is cultivated throughout Russia, Turkey, Greece and the Middle East, China and most of Asia and Europe.
Pain relief, tonic, laxative, demulcent, expectorant, cooling, emollient, diuretic, emetic, aphrodisiac, emmengogue, rejuvenative and intellect promoting.
Sanskrit Name : Yasti madhu / madhuka
Ayurvedic properties :
- Rasa – sweet
- Guna – heavy and unctuous
- Vipaka – sweet
- Veerya – cold
- Doshic Action – pacifies vata and pitta and Kapha (expectorant) – it liquifies and removes kapha from the body
Action :
It is used to prolonged longevity, and healing capacity. Gives strength in case of fatigue.
Used as a tonic, promotes good eye sight.
Used against rheumatish, bleeding, throat irritation and bronchitis, urinary disorders, morbid thirst, exhaustion and rejuvenation.
HOME REMEDIES FOR PAIN & TIREDNESS
– 1 inch piece liquorice + 1 cup water – boil for 5 minutes, leave to cool and drink.
or
– ½ tsp liquorice powder + 1 cup boiling water- leave for 5 minutes and drink
